’Tis the season…

...the festival of colors, that is. Inspirational reds, purples, yellows, and oranges are already decorating the White Mountains! Although today is lovely and sunny, the first frost at Pinkham Notch happened in mid August, and trees are taking the cue – cooler temperatures and shorter days mean trees pack up for the winter and get ready to hibernate. All this week, trees are starting to shut down activity in their leaves, the green photosynthesizing chlorophyll breaks down, and other colors are able to shine through in their full Autumn magnificence.
